A treatment visa in France is a short-term Schengen visa requested by any person suffering from a chronic or serious illness that is difficult to treat in his home country.

In order to obtain this type of visa, we will learn in this topic the most important procedures that must be followed.

France visa requirements for medical treatment:

  • A passport valid for at least 3 months, accompanied by a photocopy of it.
  • A photocopy of all previous visas (valid and expired) and the pages used in the passport.
  • Completed and signed France Schengen visa application form.
  • One recent photograph, white background, size 5.5 x 4.3 cm
  • Travel health insurance valid for the same period of stay in France (minimum coverage of €30,000).
  • Confirmed hotel reservation.
  • Reserve a round trip ticket.
  • Proof of sufficient funds during the period of stay in France.
  • A letter from the employer.
  • Tax card and commercial register for the self-employed.
  • A bank statement for the last 3 months for the Arab Maghreb countries, as for the rest of the Arab countries, the last 6 months are required.
  • A medical certificate from a (public) doctor detailing the nature of the visa applicant's illness and the reason for his need for treatment in France
  • A document that proves the patient’s acceptance in France and specifies the date of his admission to the hospital and the approximate period he will spend in the hospital, and the document must also contain all the costs that the patient will pay for his treatment
  • A document proving that the patient paid the cost of treatment in advance, and or a document proving that one of the institutions or associations that guaranteed the payment of the treatment costs
  • Pay the visa fee


After collecting all the necessary documents for the treatment visa file in France, the file is submitted to the French consulate or one of the TLS CONTACT or VFS GLOBAL application review centers


The patient can assign another person to submit a file for the treatment visa application in France if his health condition does not allow him to do so. The patient can also take a relative with him as his companion by adding some documents to the visa application file. These documents are:

A paper to prove the relationship with the patient, or a statement from the visa applicant if his companion is not a relative.

A document proving the sponsorship of the institution or association that was sent to the patient, proving its sponsorship of the patient’s facilities as well.
